The winery

It all started with a letter of 1289 from the King Edward that defined the boundary between Pomerol and Saint-Emilion following the stream of "Tailhayat". Acquired in 1932 by Philippe Nebout, the property is operated since 1981 by a civil society NEBOUT created by his heirs. The Château Tailhas vineyard is composed of 11 hectares in one piece, and is located on the Southern slope of the Pomerol plateau, bordered at east by the town of Saint-Emilion. So it also very close to the Figeac area. The silica sol mixed with fine gravel stand on a specific subsoil named "iron dirt". The traditional grape varieties are composed of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The average wine age is 35 years. The wines of Tailhas got all the characteristics of the wines of Pomerol: ripe fruit, undergrowth, a floral nose and a large portion of imagination.

    This was a fascinating tour conducted by one of the two brothers who own this vineyard. He explained the process, answered all our questions in perfect English ( tours are carried out in English or French) and gave us three different vintages of the Chateau's Pomerol to try. It was my first wine tasting experience and was truly memorable, informative and enjoyable.

    À notre arrivé, au Château du Tailhas, mon épouse et moi avons été reçu par Jean Baptiste un co-propiétaire du vignoble. Il nous a guidé et informé sur l'origine du château, le vignoble et les excellents vins qui y sont produits. Jean Baptiste s'est avéré être des plus sympathique et un gentilhomme. Suite à notre dégustation de bons vins du Pomerol signé Chateau Tailhas millésime 2010 et 2016, nous avons quitté les lieux non seulement heureux et satisfait de notre visite mais avec quelques bouteilles en main Bravo à la famille Nebout pour leur bon travail.     We enjoyed the tour with our very informative host. It was lovely to hear about the family involvement in all aspects of the production and wine making. The vertical tasting was great and we bought a bottle of the 2016 vintage which the four of us then enjoyed over dinner. It was superb! I highly recommend this tour and tasting.

    Nous avons été superbement bien reçus dans ce petit domaine de la famille Nebout : une visite simple, très croustillante et très intéressante, suivie d’une dégustation de 3 millésimes dont un magnifique Pomerol de 2016. Il y’a même un petit coin dessin pour déguster tranquillement sans (trop) se soucier de ses enfants ! Nous repartons évidemment avec quelques bouteilles et un excellent souvenir. Merci encore !

    We were welcomed into the vineyard and winery and given a short history. We looked at the vines (about two weeks away from harvesting) and given a detailed explanation of the vinification process. We sampled two wines, 2018 and 2008 to show the difference in structures and how time affects the ageing process, improving with age to produce a delicate fine red….allowing us to make a purchase afterwards!!

    Nice visit to a family chateau. Jean, our host was great about answering all of our questions. Despite having visited several chateaux already, we learned even more at this visit. The tasting of 4 different vintages really allowed us to see the effects of aging and weather on the wines.
