The cycling part was a nice itinerary (similar to the price of a bike rental plus the wine). I was expecting at least some sort of detail (even a basic explanation) of the sites and stops of the tour (it was my first time in the region and visiting st emilion and I didn’t know the history). Instead they just gave a suggested itinerary which was marked on an app. However the ride itself was pleasant, the bike was well equipped (helmet, phone holder, lock etc). When I got back it was time for the degustation. I was a solo travelle, and I was served standing indoors at the bar where it was extremely hot (14h30pm at the end of August) whereas there was another couple doing the same wine tasting, however they were seated outside and at a table. At the bar I was again expecting to be explained a bit about the wine and what to expect from the tasting. So I asked the bartender and he seemed surprised. I asked him how he recommended to taste the bartender/owner how to best taste the wine and he answered that it depended on how well I wanted to drive after (which to me felt a bit rude). I then asked him questions and he was prepared and explained (but very fast and rapidly) the properties of the wine, but I was expecting to also hear a bit of the history, and where it comes from and why (explaining the wine aging process) and ideally comparing the various wines I was trying so that I knew what differences to look out for. I was also asked why I had decided to travel there and why I was travelling alone. Maybe he was just trying to make small talk/conversation, but it seemed like a weird and direct question. Good if you’re looking to do a bike ride with a suggested itinerary but the wine tasting was clearly for wine experts and not for curious non-expert solo tourists. L'accueil était vraiment au top et les vins étaient excellents. Même si on a été un peu surpris par le système de visite avec les QR codes au début, on a vite pris le coup de main. Nous avons adoré cette visite libre, c'était agréable de se balader à notre rythme pendant une visite. L'architecture du château est magnifique, tout comme les jardins. Les vins sont vraiment excellents, et la dégustation était généreuse. Par contre, ils sont un peu chers, ce serait bien d'avoir des vins plus abordables. L'équipe est top, très chaleureuse. Our guide was first class ! Of course the estate is state of the art and done in a very tasteful manner ! Impressive architecture. ‘Self guided immersive tour’ was walking around a vineyard while trying to load different videos from a QR link on your phone. - the link stopped working half way through - there was limited areas of shade so the videos were difficult to watch. (And was challenging on a >30 degree day) - minimal places to sit when trying to load and watch the video. - the whole experience seemed very impersonal. This was a late day visit on a Friday, so maybe the timing contributed to the lack of excitement. This tasting does not include the Chateau grounds but rather takes place in a room next to the highway. The host was polite but not very energized to explain the history of the winery. Two of the wines were not from Montlabert estate. Une visite bien menée, avec un guide charmant et clair. On a aimé le format, c'était pas trop long mais bien détaillé. Les vins étaient très bons, surtout lorsqu'on se rapprochait du haut-de-gamme. C'était une très belle expérience, d’autant plus qu'on a gagné un tour avec la Saint-Valentin ! Une visite bien menée, avec un guide charmant et clair. Nous avons eu droit à une dégustation différente de celle que nous avions choisie. Nous voulions en effet goûter un vin blanc, un vin rouge et un vin rosé. Nous avons donc reçu le Montalbert. C'est un très bon vin que nous avons apprécié. Ce qui nous a plu, c'est la boutique. Montalbert fait partie d'un groupe qui possède beaucoup d'autres châteaux, en dehors de Saint-Émilion et de Bordeaux. Nous avons également visité le château. En un mot, c'est génial. Superlatif. Nous avons été bien accueillis par un hôte parlant parfaitement anglais. Une visite passionnante qui nous a permis de découvrir un Grand Cru Classé dans un cadre superbe. La décoration du château nous a particulièrement plu, ça a beaucoup de charme.
