The winery

Château La Lagune, a veritable architectural treasure of the Médoc, stands out for its magnificent Carthusian monastery, built between 1730 and 1855. The winery takes its name from an ancient village built around natural springs, which was transformed into a vineyard in 1587. Classified as a 3rd Grand Cru, it owes this prestigious distinction to its exceptional terroir. On one of the finest gravelly hilltops, the wine achieves a remarkable balance between power and refinement. The silky tannins and depth of the cuvées reveal the richness of this unique terroir. Certified organic in 2016 and biodynamic in 2022, the winery is run by Caroline Frey, who perfects the parcel selections thanks to a state-of-the-art vat room and cellar. Finally, the château's vaulted kitchen embodies the French art of living, combining elegance and conviviality.

    Marina was a wonderful host and gave a fabulous tour of the group gorgeous property. We especially liked how the tour was restricted only to small groups, and we felt especially lucky to be the only ones during our time slot. The chateaux itself is beautiful and was fun to see and be able to go in and take pictures of. Marina was very knowledgeable about the chateau's owners and their winemaking philosophy, in particular their approach on sustainability in the face of the slowly changing climate from global warming. This was certainly one of our favorite tours. And it goes without saying that the wine was incredible at this third growth Grand Cru classes chateaux.
