Every detail was figured out in advance. Learned a lot about wine making and enjoyed our time very much.

  • An interesting trip to left and right banks - shame about the weather!

by for Médoc and Saint-Emilion day trip from Bordeaux (Wine tour) on 10/04/2025

We arrived about 15 minutes early at the rendezvous point, but only 5 minutes afterwards, our guide and driver Armelle arrived. She spoke excellent English and was very friendly and informative. For one so young (early 20s) she knew a huge amount about the terroir of both left and right banks, the grape varieties grown and the wine-making process. We started off with a visit to Chateau Angludet where we tasted their second wine and 2 different vintages of their first wine. It was interesting to learn that they are a well-reputed winery making quality wines (with a large British following) yet have chosen not to be part of the Cru Bourgeois system. We then drove for around an hour in pouring rain to the micro-winery that's just been planted by her boss (I think Amelle said it's only 0.18 hectares!) but the main reason for the visit was for us to taste wines from beyond the region which were available for sale there. We weren't particularly impressed by this part of the trip as there was no heating and no light in the loo! We then went off to lunch. We had been expecting a prix-fixe lunch for €29, but the price on the menu was €50. Apparently, because of the inclement weather, we had been taken to another restaurant that had more indoor space. In the end we each chose one dish from the carte and shared a bottle of white wine between the 6 of us, and it didn't cost a great deal over €29. Next came a walking tour around St Emillion, which would have been even nicer had the limestone buildings been lit by a warm autumn sun, rather than being drenched by frequent squalls, but it is a beautifully quaint town, albeit rather full of shops catering predominantly to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit each year. Thence we headed off for Chateau Moncets in Lalonde de Pomerol. This is a beautifully restored chateau where we had a really interesting talk about their wines from one of the staff, and then tasted 4 or 5 wines including a white. This winery was obviously switched on to merchandise marketing opportunities, but we were able to resist the hoodies, caps and gold balls emblazoned with their (admittedly rather nice) logo. It was quite a long drive back to Bordeaux, but Armelle was kind enough to drop us at our hotel, saving us finding an Uber or Bolt car to take us the last few miles. Overall it was a very interesting trip, and I think we all learned more than we had anticipated, and best of all, we still have a bottle of 2010 Chateau Angludet to look forward to!

We recently went on the Saint Emilion and Medoc Wine Tour, and it was nothing short of spectacular. We had such an amazing day with Victor! He was more than just a guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable about wine making and tasting and the history and legacy of the region. The region is known for its rolling vineyards, and the scenery was just breathtaking. The sun-dappled hills and charming châteaux made it feel like a dream. We started the day with a visit to a fabulous winery, where we were greeted by Eva who led us through the process of wine making. The tour was very hands-on, allowing us to explore the cellars and vineyard. My husband and I fell in love with the wine and can’t wait for our shipment to arrive. After the wine tasting, we enjoyed a fantastic lunch at a local restaurant, with a gorgeous view of the vineyard. The food was so delicious and the staff was so helpful. We enjoyed a few more stops and tastings and then a quick tour of Saint Emilion, where again Victor shared his vast knowledge of the region. The entire experience was seamless—well-organized and educational, but also relaxed and fun. It felt like a real insider’s look into the art of winemaking and not a touristy stop.I highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves wine or is looking to immerse themselves in French culture. The region is steeped in history, and the wine is second to none. Thank you so much Victor for helping to make our anniversary one we will never forget!
